Annual Report for 2017 for M1/4414B

Section 3:

3a. peak daily flow 70,406

3b. peak daily flow date 01/10/2017

3c. peak hourly flow 1,466

3d. peak hourly flow date/time (hr ending) 25/06/2017 18:29:00

3d, has our ending "25/06/2017 18:29:00", obviously this isn't an hour ending.

Interrogating the 15-minute value shows that this is actually a 15-minute value and not an hourly value.

Can you update either the data so it matches the labels, i.e. hourly means hourly not 15-minutely or update the label so its peak 15-minute flow and peak 15-minute flow date/time ending?

Agree looks odd, and the time is missing 00:00:59 (.996) on the end too. I've raised the report error with the dev team and will look into the other issue -- suspect I know where this coming from.

Any progress on this in the last two months?

rahi92 posted this 23 March 2018

hi, can I get the list of all sites plz?

Are these the only active sites being shown on the map?

Paul Watkins posted this 29 March 2018

Hank -- Yes, it was raised and it's with our supplier. However the time it's taken to resolve isn't satisfactory and I've escalated it. I suspect they're having some resource issues currently so difficult to tie them down.

Rahi92 -- You can obtain a complete list of sites via the API, or if you're uncomfortable with using the API please drop a mail to performanceanalysisunit@highwaysengland.co.uk and we'll sort one out for you. If you look at the 'filter markers' button, 4th from the top right it describes the type of site and its active/inactive status.

You pay your supplier, surely you have some kind of service level agreement? And surely 3 months to resolve a bug is not meeting that agreement?

Surely 7-months is now long enough for your supplier to address this issue?

This has been updated, with Peak Hourly flow now showing as 5286. Unfortunately, due to the member of staff who was previously handling this query being on extended leave, I could not tell you when this update was actioned.

Hank posted this 10 October 2018

Hi Shaun,

How is this now being calculated? Is this summing up the  individual 15-minute flows each hour to achieve a value? Are there any aggregations for the occasions where not all four of the hourly values are available, i.e. if only 1 of the 4 readings are available this value is multiplied by four?

Also with regard to the new label:

3d. peak hourly flow date/time 23/06/2017 17:00

Is this an hour starting? Hour ending? Mid point of the readings i.e. between 16:30 - 17:30?

Also will I have to wait another 10-months for a response to this query?

Hi Hank

According to the documentation, any day in which one or more of the hours data missing are omitted from the calculations for Average Flows, however, total flows should still include them.

As to the timing, my understanding is that all period are shown as "Hour Started". In other words, to use your example, data showing as 17:00 will have all data in from 17:00 to 17:59.

I hope this helps

Is there any reason for this change from hour ending to hour starting?  Any reason why this change hasn't been communicated?

Shaun Ryan-Izzard posted this 4 weeks ago

I can only speak to what is in the documentation. my understanding is that this has always been the case. If this is not the case, can you point me to the publication that says otherwise and I will certainly investigate,

Hank posted this 4 weeks ago

So I need to point you to your own documentation?! That seems a little perverse.

Regardless, as you can see from my original post, which is a copy and paste from your reports;

3d. peak hourly flow date/time (hr ending) 25/06/2017 18:29:00

3d. clearly stated hour ending, and now you are saying that it is hour beginning. With regard to documentation, as you can tell by what is on this website it is certainly a little thin....

I would like to apologise if my meaning wasn't as clear as I had hoped. I, of course, have access to the current copy of the documentation regarding how reports are calculated within WebTris, which advise that the hours are calculated as stated in my previous post. Occasionally though,  "alternative" documentation can be circulated through such public forums, which is what I was asking for you to direct me to, so that their veracity could be determined.. However, as you have now clarified that this is what has been displayed on the reports themselves, I have double checked. This appears to have occurred on previous incarnations of the report. Currently, the section outlined no longer displays the "(hr ending)" tag, on either the online annual report, or the downloaded .CSV version.
